Character Trait - Courage

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

"Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong." 1 Corinthians 16:13

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you." Isaiah 41:13

The Bible tells us that God is always with us. God is our Protector; He watches over us and keeps us safe from harm. God also sends the Holy Spirit to give us strength. The Spirit helps us to fight against sin and stand up for what is right. Standing up for what is right means not going along with what someone else is doing if you believe they are wrong. That means you might have to say or do something to stop them.

Being courageous is not the same as being fearless. Having courage means we are able to act bravely even when we are afraid, and that confidence comes from knowing we can trust in God. There are many examples of courageous men and women in the Bible: David, Daniel, Hezekiah, and Esther, just to name a few. There were times when they were afraid, but they trusted God and He gave them courage and strength. It takes courage to tell others what the Bible says, what the truth is, and how Jesus is the Lord. But we can do it because God will always be there to help.
