Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

Age 5+: Read Luke 19:1-10
Under 5: Read about Zacchaeus, the tax collector, from a children's story bible or the short summary below.

Zacchaeus was a rich man. His job was to collect money, but when he collected it, he kept a lot of the money for himself. Zacchaeus wanted to see Jesus, but he was a small man and with the crowd around Jesus, he couldn't get near Him. So he ran ahead and climbed a tree to see Him, since Jesus was coming that way. Jesus looked up into the tree and called out, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." Zacchaeus quickly got down from the tree and welcomed Jesus to his house!

The other people nearby complained and said, "Why should Jesus go to his house? Zacchaeus is a very bad person. He sins all the time!" But Zacchaeus repented. He loved Jesus and wanted to show it, so he promised to give away half of his money to the poor, and to repay anyone he had cheated. Jesus had changed his heart! Jesus said this was why He had come, to seek out and save the sinner.
