Jesus as a Child

Age 5+: Read Luke 2:40-52
Under 5: Read about Jesus as a child from a children's story bible or the short summary below.

Every year, Jesus' family went to Jerusalem to worship in the temple as God told all the Jews to do. When Jesus was 12 years old, he visited the temple with his family as usual. As they started on their way back home, Mary and Joseph realized that Jesus was not with them. They began to look for him and could not find him. Finally, after three days, they found him in the temple courtyard talking with the teachers about God. He was listening to them and asking questions. When his parents found him, they were amazed. Mary said, "Son, why have you worried us? We have been looking for you everywhere!" Jesus replied, "Didn't you know I would be in my Father's house?" But they did not understand what he meant.

Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and he obeyed them. He became wiser and stronger. God was pleased with him and so were the people who watched him grow.

Journal (age 8+) Copy memory verse, write what you think Jesus might have been like as a child, and write down any prayer requests.

Journal (age 3+) Draw and color a picture of Jesus as a child. Copy memory verse if able.

Optional Activity: Discuss Jesus' life as a child. He certainly didn't have it easy. His family had to move because Herod wanted him killed. He lived in a foreign country for a while, then in Galilee, then in Nazareth. Jesus' earthly father was a carpenter. They were not rich. He had younger siblings. And not many people knew who he really was... the son of God.

Prayer: Praise and thank God, ask for forgiveness, submit any prayer requests.
