Age 5+: Read Matthew 2Under 5: Read about the wise men from a children's story bible or the short summary below.
After Jesus was born the wise men saw a star shining bright and high in the sky. They came to Jerusalem to ask where the child was. King Herod called for the wise men and spoke to them. He sent them to Bethlehem to search for the child. He told them, "As soon as you find him, bring me a report. Then I can go and worship him too."
The wise men followed the star to where it finally stopped over the place where Jesus was. There they saw the child with his mother, Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their gifts and gave him gold, incense, and myrrh.
God warned the wise men in a dream not to go back to King Herod. So they went a different way home. After the wise men had left, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream. The angel told him to take Mary and Jesus and run away to Egypt. King Herod wanted to kill the child. So they left during the night and stayed in Egypt until Herod died.
How did the wise men find Jesus? They followed his star.
What gifts did the wise men bring? Gold, incense, and myrrh.

Herod told the wise men he wanted to worship the child. Was this true? No, he lied to them so he could locate the child.
How did King Herod know where Jesus was to be born? The chief priests told him about the prophesy in Micah 5:2.
If God had not spoken to the wise men in a dream, what could have happened? The wise men would have told King Herod where Jesus was.
Why did King Herod want to kill Jesus? Because Herod was afraid of losing his throne.

I will give Him my heart.
