About Devotions For Kids

Welcome! Devotions For Kids is dedicated to helping children develop and grow in their faith. The mission of this website is to teach children to follow Jesus, and for each of them to love Him with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Finding a Solution

My family struggled when our children were young during family worship because each of our children wanted to read from his or her own Bible or devotional. However, our 2-year-old didn't want to sit and listen to the 6-year-old's Bible and we found ourselves often just rushing through the toddler's devotional to finish before someone started crying or arguing. Some of the family devotionals I tried were either for older children (who could sit still and listen, ha!) or too focused on stories and application instead of the Word of God. So, I decided to create my own.

How to Use the Devotions

My goal is to read one small section of Scripture and be able to discuss it with all of my children at the same time. Each devotion begins with God's Word. Older children can read the verses before the devotion begins, or you can choose to read them together. I use the New International Version (NIV), but you may use whatever Bible you prefer. If you have children under 5, read from a story Bible covering the same verses, and allow them to look over the pictures or read the short summary provided. For the younger children, I like the NirV Story Bible from Zondervan, but again, please use whatever bible or format you prefer.

Following the Bible reading, the youngest children are asked simple questions about what was just read. Older children can help answer or elaborate in these discussions. I have provided some simple answers, but you may wish to expand upon them. There is an application question or two that preteen children can respond to and a memory verse to repeat and memorize, if desired. Finish with prayer: each child praises and thanks God, asks for forgiveness, and makes a request. Older children can complete a journal entry for the day documenting this information. Younger children can draw a picture indicating their understanding of what they just heard. Each devotion is designed to take about 15-20 minutes with three children.

I happily welcome your input and feedback! In the coming months, I will be developing and adding devotions and Bible stories in many different areas. My goal is to provide a comprehensive website that you can visit daily for all your child's devotional needs, from preschool to preteen. Thank you for visiting and may God bless you and your family!
